Opening the door
ODC Logo Sketches
For a long time now I have been struggling with creative energy. Not the lack of it but the mishandling of it. After a long stint as a corporate designer, I found myself unfulfilled with where my effort went. Was there a paycheck? Of course. Were there tangible objects after all the research, sketches, meetings, 3D modeling, presentations, and manufacturing? More than anyone knew what to do with. Maybe that ultimately was the problem. Too many objects, not enough connection. Too many decisions made with shareholders in mind and not on who was actually using the product. Too much consumed to put out the next “best” thing, hot on the heels of the previous “best” thing. So in an effort to reclaim my creative energy I’m taking a leap.
Open Door Craftworks is my leap, my solution to all of this. Thoughtful, design focused furniture and hard goods that evoke emotion. Not only on first viewing but after years and years of use. Furniture that embraces one of the best materials this planet has to offer. The tree is one of the most incredible and beautiful organisms there is. This means that every cut, every grain orientation decision, and every design detail requires the utmost thought and attention. I love the art of design. I obsess over the skill of craftsmanship. I am beyond excited, if not slightly terrified, to truly follow the winding path of creativity and find out where it will take Open Door Craftworks and I am certain that my creative energy will be much better spent. Please stay tuned. There is much more to come and I will be sharing as much as I can along the way.
